I found this in a box of parts I got with my truck ('67 D100). Looks like it is used for timing the engine. Does this belong on my truck and if so where does it get mounted exactly (picture maybe)?
Thanks

Mounts on a timing cover bolt and hangs over the edge of the vibration damper, left side of engine.

Just to clarify I believe left side of engine as viewed from driver's seat, which applies to all descriptions concerning left/right.

Re: Does this belong?
Something like XX years ago, I had asked... how to tell right from left when working on a car? When looking at it? OR standing behind it, and I was told no matter how someone looks at me, I only have ONE right arm! So... from then on, that stuck in my brain. Like... a car only has one right fender, one left taillight etc. I posted this old memory just for fun...

Re: Does this belong?
Thanks, I did look on the left side (drivers side) and saw nothing but then found one on the right side, beefier looking. I should have mentioned I have a 318 so I assume it should be on the right side(?) The one I posted I am now assuming must have come off the slant 6 (?) when they did the engine swap.

It can be on either side, depending on which side the water pump outlet is on. Poly's will be different than LA's and pre 69 can be different than 69-71.

It looks like the one that was on my dad's /6 Dart, driver's side. The LA318 with which I'm more familar had an aluminum casting for the timing case that had the timing marks as part of the casting.

The timing tab is 1969 model year and older for small blocks.
Starting with the 1970 model year the timing tabs were cast into the front cover.
The water pumps also changed from cast iron to aluminum in a different shape.
