Medium Duty Big Block Set-Up

Post by Zpsull01 »

There is a local salvage yard that is getting ready to close up shop later this year. My brother was there the other day and told me that they have a medium duty Sweptline that has a complete big block/manual trans/hydraulic bell set-up (Motor, mounts, bell, flywheel/clutch, trans, etc.). I know nothing about this set-up at the moment, the motor may be froze up at the moment??? My question is, is it worth trying to obtain this set-up? I have a 66 D-300 with a slant that I would like to put a big block in but if I never get around to it, is there a market for these medium duty set-ups? Pulling it will be a nightmare with how it sits at the moment but I'll take it on if its worth the effort. Thoughts...

Yes & no.

Not worth it for trying to buy then sell for profit. Heavy parts only seem to have buyers who live 2000 miles away & shipping costs makes it impractical for both you & them to make a deal. Also storing components that weigh several hundred pounds is a headache, whether they are for sale or being saved for potential future projects.

But these things are no longer in production, obviously, so you're not going to find one at Walmart or even NAPA in the future, so saving these pieces now probably wouldn't be a bad idea for somebody (not necessarily you, but somebody). I currently have a 70's big block medium duty sitting on my garage floor. I'll never get out of it what I paid but probably couldn't replicate what I have.

Is it a 4 speed or 5?

Honestly I'm not sure. I haven't made it out there yet to look at it.

The only two offered in mediums were the 361 & 413. Most likely the 361.
