3 Speed Linkage Slips off Lever

Post by jamin314 »

I have a '71 d100 3 on the tree. The gear selector at the linkage slips off of the 1st-Reverse lever and back to the 2nd-3rd lever every so often sticking the truck in first gear in (enough to make it difficult to drive). There is a considerable amount of play in the 1st-Reverse lever and less on the 2nd-3rd lever. The gear selector can be seen barely grabbing the 1st-reverse lever and makes much better contact when pushed towards the 2nd-3rd lever. Is there a way to tighten this linkage to push the 2 levers closer and keep the gear selector form slipping off. I removed the old grease and that helped significantly and has made everything soother, but plan to put more back on once it can hold itself together.

The included pictures show the difference from 1st and 3rd where the gear selector can be seen barely holding on.

If there is no way to adjust this, my plan is to wrap a rubber band around it to hold it closer together, but still allow it to stretch to move into gear.

Thanks,
