I layed the tank on its side so that the area I was welding wasn't submerged. If I remember, I will post a pic of the first tank I welded. It is strange that they all seem to crack in the same spot. Although, it dosent leak if you don't fill it up above the cracks.

How I used to deal with it, but on the roads in this area, that means the level must be pretty low. The smell was awful, particularly with California gas back when they were using so much MTBE in it.

My tiny crack was about 1/3 the way up from the bottom where the tank is also thinner. So... that would only give me about 3-4 gallons? :pale

Yes, that is the EXACT same spot! See my repair area (dark grey) on my tank.
