Question on automatics for the Poly

Post by Volksnut »

So to try to shorten this post...my newly acquired '63 D100 with 318 currently has a A745 3 speed. There's a quite a few things the transmission needs, clutch, longer driveshaft (3" too short), re bushed shift linkage, no e brake drum etc. etc. So I was talking to my wife and the question came up about automatics and if she drove it, it would be nice to have one. So thinking I already have a 904 in the garage and it's out of small block LA, shouldn't it fit the '63 Poly? Yes I know there's more than just the transmission, cooler, linkage, driveshaft, cross member etc. etc. If so what flex plate would I need, just one from a internally balanced 318?

904 will bolt to 318 Poly. Snout on 904 torque convertor to index into crank may be wrong size, But that can be dealt with. :thinking :thinking :salut
