Bolts right in. You may have to deal with different u joint and emergency brake cables. Couple minor things. :thinking :salut

Yeah a disc brake dana 60 for the front would be good if available and not too ugly expensive.

The Ch3vy DRW 60 I got cost me $1500 at the wrecking yard, a grand to clean up, and another $500 to convert it to SRW.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me on my inquiry about my up coming project. My 70 currently has the original closed knuckle front end and I think I would be better off with open knuckle as I would think parts are getting harder to come by for the closed knuckle.

Nothing wrong with the closed knuckle front end. That style has been used in various forms by all make of North American manufacturers.
Parts can be found :thinking :thinking

I agree the closed knuckle 44 is a good axle. I just thought that if the OP got a parts truck with both rear and front then...
I have completely rebuild a 80 disc brake 44 over the last few years as I was going to replace my closed knuckle. Cant bring myself to do it because the original is working fine!

How about an earlier truck, my '63 D100 and swapping an Explorer axle? Anyone do that swap, too narrow? I know about perches, pinion angle and u-joint.

explorer axle would I think be a downgrade. even if its a ford 9 inch they are just HP suckers and over rated. a chrysler 8 3/4" is one of the best 1/2 ton diffs ever made. tons of parts available
