Options for 4 speed
I'm just kicking around rocks and cans here and drinking coffee. Presently my '63 D100 has a 318/3 speed on the tree. Is there any 4 speeds that would fit the present bell housing other than the granny first gear models. Will any of the car 4 speeds fit?

Re: Options for 4 speed
Granny 4 speed truck transmission bolt in or a complete mechanical bell housing/clutch assembly and starter change with frame mods and new cross member to install a car style 4 speed A833 or A833 OD. Plus adapt a Clutch Slave cylinder to Car/truck A833 bell housing with a custom made bracket.
Not a simple bolt in affair.

A 10-spline NP435 would work good for you.

Re: Options for 4 speed
How about a LA bellhousing with a 833 4 four speed. I know I'll have to change to manual linkage, anything else I have to look for, shifter, pilot bearing size?

I've actually made that A833 conversion on my old Dart, putting a hydraulic linkage on it. The mechanical is better, but the hydraulic is much easier to make fit in a truck that already has it. You can get a mechanical truck linkage from '69+ trucks but you will be cutting into the firewall.

Re: Options for 4 speed
Without the truck in front of me to see, I'm sure there's no way to mount the pivot ball on the block either (318 poly)? Doesn't the LA fork exit out the drivers side of the bell so that would have to be moved too.Wildergarten wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 9:08 amI've actually made that A833 conversion on my old Dart, putting a hydraulic linkage on it. Re: Options for 4 speed
if you go with a 435 look for the 435D or 435D2 or D3. those all have the close ratio so first is usable. i once saw a 420 with close ratio but I think super rare

Re: Options for 4 speed
Next to impossible. There is a crossmember under the bell that not only would interfere with the clutch linkage, but the entire engine and tranny is mounted on it via the mounts integral to the bell. And yes, the fork is on the left for the mech. bell.Volksnut wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 10:22 amHow about a LA bellhousing with a 833 4 four speed. Re: Options for 4 speed
Thanks, where are those D, D2 or D3 numbers on the trans? Not that I'd even find a 435 trans but you never know.

Re: Options for 4 speed
Best place to find a 435 is to find a 65-68 truck in a wrecking yard. VERY FEW will be a close ratio in a 100 or 200. All Ive seen were in 1 ton and heavier and they will have the wrong input shaft. (I have one in my stash from a 68 D400)

Re: Options for 4 speed
I put a Tremec TKO-600 (5-speed) in my 65' and I used a Wilwood pull-type slave cylinder mounted to a bracket I fabricated and added to the transmission (the cylinder pulls on the factory clutch arm). There is also the option of not using the factory clutch arm using and going with an internal hydraulic throwout bearing which can make for a pretty uncluttered release assembly (although some don't like the potential for fluid leakage near their clutch). As others have said there isn't much room so you may need to get creative.
Re: Options for 4 speed
if you want a 435D I would try DC truck p[arts in OR. i see them fairly often in sweptline trucks

Re: Options for 4 speed
Don't remember if it has been discussed, but where is your e-brake? If not the rear wheels, it is on the tranny and the CL 435 will eliminate your e-brake, unless you upgrade the rear axle.
