Hello guys, got questions for 71 dodge crewcab w200 (8 lug) 4x4 gearing, at the moment I have 4.88’s. I got a slant 6 that is going on a turbo upgrade. What gears were available for a Dana 44HD and Dana 60? 4.10 and 4.88??? Was 3.55 and option for these 8 lugs? I’m not planning on towing, just mild hauling every now and then. I’d like to get 3.55’s if it is even an option.

The pre 69 W100s did not use a 5 lug axle. They used the same 8 lug axles as the 3/4 ton trucks.

Seems to me that the final drive ratio you want is also dependent upon the size of the tires you plan, but it looks like you are trying to do as tall as possible. For mileage?

Never thought of a turbo on a /6, but it would seem that in terms of room, the engine is ideal for such as long as you've upgraded the head with hard seats and sodium filled or stellite valves and plan an intercooler with a decent waste gate. Keep us updated on this as it will be interesting to see what combination of bottom -end torque and mileage you get out of it with tall gearing.

I’m planning on running 35’s. I’d do 4.10s if need be. I just don’t want to be roaring down the highway at 55,60,70 mph.

With 4.88 gears at 55-65 RPMS will be way high? No?

4.88 and 35s will be fine a 55. Any faster, not so much.

4.88s and 35s can go 65 easy. there are calculators online for rpms. 4.10 is as tall as i would ever go with a tire that large and a slant 6. I personlly like the 4.88s. very hilly around here so they work great. If I lived in flatlands I would do the 4.10s. 3.55s are for broncos stuck in the mud. ;/)

I would suggest at least 4.10's with 35's and a slant 6. 4th gear direct at 65 with 35" tires and 4.10 ratio = 2550 RPM.
Im not up to par on my Slant 6 knowledge but I know it is way different than the cummins in my truck. I run 35" tires with .73 overdrive and 3.54 gearing and at 70 it is roughly 1850 RPM (according to my tach). Check out https://crawlpedia.com/rpm_gear_calculator.htm for some quick drivetrain calculations. I don't know what the power curve of a Slant 6 looks like especially with a turbo.
Do you have the crew cab north of town on 156? Missed out on the Power Wagon Rally a few weeks ago at Hollister Hills.

I agree, 4.10 is as low as I would go if your running tall tires. If your running an automatic, you could go to 3.91's.
With a stick, I'd stay with 4.88's or 4.10's depending on tires size. I ran 4.88's and 34's and had no trouble running 65-70, she would cruise all day long at 60 mph on the highway was perfect......but if I wanted to go and pass, she would go to 65-70 easily.
