I see a lot of discussion about putting in a 440 where a 318 sat...bell housings comes up a lot. Couldn't the 440's bell stay with the motor and just bolt to the 727? Am I looking at this wrong? I think a lot of folks just try to mount the 318 bell to the 440 right instead of other way round.
Thanks,
Kupa

No bell house for a 727 right? Bell housings are for the clutch.

No matter how you look at it, A 440 or BB Engine will not bolt to a SB (Small Block) transmission/bell housing .

The transmission has a built in bell housing as part of the case. You may be able to cut and weld a new bell housing on but it may not be worth doing.

They're is a company that sells bell housings that bolt to transmission using pump bolts. The existing bell housing has to be cut off just even with front edge of pump. Don't remember company name.
