This is probably a stupid question but not a problem that I've encountered before. I installed a new Carter muscle car mechanical fuel pump from Summit Racing. After installing it I hooked the line from the fuel tank to the inlet of the pump and fuel pours out the outlet side of the pump.
Should fuel flow straight through the pump without the engine turning over? I've never experienced that happening before. I had always thought that you had to turn the engine over to get fuel through the pump.
Thanks in advance!

Re: fuel pump allowing fuel to pass?
If this is in a truck with an in cab tank then yes fuel will flow, due to gravity (siphon effect).
But in this scenario the fuel would also be flowing BEFORE you hooked the line up to the pump inlet.
