Post by MadMC63 »

Moving from the parts wanted section...
My parts book actually shows four possible options avaialable for 70- 71 light duty models.
(1) Cowls,17 gallon 1970 only. ( absolutly no idea what Cowls is) P/N: 2233815
(2)18 Gallon, Std., Cab up to serial number 1908568 Warren Plant built P/N: 2833011
18 Gallon, Std., Cab up to serial number 7115617 Missouri Plant built P/N: 2833011

After serial number 1908568 Warren Plant Built
After serial number 7115617 Missouri Plant built
Also specify one (1) P/N: 2905441 tube
(3) 70 and 71 D & W 100,200,300, w/o E.C.S 25 gallon in cab P/N: 2912880
(4) 70 and 71 D & W 100 with E.C.S., 24 gallon in cab P/N: 2912887

E.C.S = Evaporation Control System or "Vapor Savor". Started 1970 in California.
1971 Dodge D100
So what's wrong with setting beneath a single pull string incandescent light bulb writing angry letters?

the 17 gal tank you have listed is in fact listed in all the parts books from 61-71. And is noted that it is "except cab tank."
the 18 gal tank you have listed is in fact the same part number and is listed for the trucks 61-69 as I stated
the 24 gal tank you have listed is not in any of my books, but I do know the tanks with the vents were started in California so maybe they just superseded the tank. Who knows. Bottom line is there were no tanks for a sweptline in the cab that were 16 or 23 gallon as previously posted. Anyway, I am done. Enjoy your trucks.

Got me in the parts books and I learned something, I appreciate that. What are they talking about with the "Cowls"?

I wonder if the 24 gallon tank listed in the parts book (P/N:2912887) is refered to as a 23 gallon tank in the brochure because it actually holds 24 gallons but only registers 23 gallons on the gauge? and, the pickup doesnt go to the bottom of the tank so you may only have access to 23 gallons?

Well isn't that interesting.
My daily driver 66 with the Cummins in it, that I have put 50,000+ miles on since 2005, bone dry out of fuel takes 16 gal to fill. Gauge on empty takes 15 and a bit to fill. Have run out twice and that's a memorable horror with a diesel engine. I wish to hell it WAS an 18 gal tank cuz then I could go 350+ miles on a fillup instead of 300+.
My 70 W200, bought from GSA auction in 1978, have put over 200,000 miles on it, took 23 gal to fill when I sat in a gas station and ran it til empty so I could see what it would hold (in 1979). Never put more than 23 gal in it, ever, and still have the truck.
My 62 W300 holds 18 gal, which is the std tank size in those yrs.
So regardless of whatever the books say, that's what is in those 3 trucks.

Cowls is probably trucks that had no body. They had a cowl and the front sheetmetal.

My parts book shows the 23 gallon was express box mounted, so probably bed side extra tanks.

Perhaps the capacities listed include non-usable parts of the tank. I've never been able to fill a tank to it's listed capacity. There could also be a bunch of sludge at the bottom of the tank not allowing the full amount of fuel.

Or a pickup tube too short, or bent, that doesn't reach the bottom of the tank.
Seems pretty lame to advertise a tank capacity that doesn't match actual usable fuel volume.
