Is it a V-8?

If so it is most likely a A318 Poly

Is the distributor toward the back of the engine? Are the valve covers
scalloped on the lower side and held on with two top bolts? :thinking

Yes the distributor is toward the back, I do not know what scalloped means. I will post a picture if it will let me. I think they are help on by multiple bolts though.. :banghead

No there is a plate with grooves cut out for them to sit in, on top of the valve covers.

If the lower sides of the valve cover are jagged and not straight and are held
on with two bolts on the tops of the valve covers, the engine
is likely an A318 Poly. If there are 6 bolts holding the valve covers on, it could
be an LA318.

This is an A series (Poly) 318 looks like. Notice valve covers and exhaust manifolds.

It looks identical to the 318 poly above! Thank you so much! 2 bolts holding the valve covers!
