slant six refresh

Post by fireguyfire »

I am trying to decide how deep to go on my 1970 slant 6 engine; the engine was running fine before I started the trucks restoration, with no blow by, but it is a fairly high miler and hasn't been touched.
I did a compression test before pulling it and the maximum difference between cylinders was 10 psi which is good.
I am thinking about a new engine gasket set, bearings, rings (and cylinder honing), oil pump and timing chain set plus an electronic ignition kit.
I also might do a minor home job port and polish.
These things are the minimum of course depending how much wear I find when I dig in; has anyone else gone down this road with a slant 6? I am looking for opinions on if I am missing something or would love suggestions.
I am trying to keep the truck as stock as possible and it will be a casual cruiser when finished.
