So this happened this morning:

• Cold start w/ manual choke, took about 10 tries to turn over
• Left on for 5 mins to warm up, adjusted choke down
• Attempted to start driving, throttle sputtered and I stalled
• Tried to restart and engine seemed to restart but then this whirling sounds spun up, engine slowly wound down, and whirling/winding sound slowly stopped
• Now ignition clicks, but nothing 'turns'

What do you think went out? Starter? Coil?
Previous owner just rebuilt the starter a few months ago...

I associate that sound with the starter.

Thanks. Taking it back to the place that rebuilt it.

Is there something else that could be causing the starter to fail? (thinking ahead given that it was just rebuilt)
