Hey guys been taking my 62 out for its first test runs and I'm dealing with a horribly noisy speedometer at the moment, was wondering if I unhook it at my 727 trans for the time being will I have a trans leak occur there when driving or is it a dry area with no fluid at needle end? Thanks!

I don't think it will leak... otherwise your cable would be "auto lubed".

Also, I'd be more worried that the cable would fall out of the housing. Don't just unscrew it otherwise the inside cable will come out and you'll lose it along the road somewhere....

The speedo pinion is in fluid and if those seals are bad it will leak while driving, you'll know when you disconnect the cable.

Why not take the speedo-cable out of the gauge, if you can hear the noise inside the cab the likely culprit is a broken speedometer, or a broken cable. Plus this way you don't have to lay on the ground.

With suggestions so far another one. Does noise come from in dash area and if so speedo head may need lubrication.

Disconnect cable from speedo, pull inner cable out a couple inches, (or all the way out). Leave housing connected to trans - no leaks, no dirt intrusion.
