318 rear main engine oil seal leak

Post by martin1953 »

My 66 W300 (with a early 80's 318 engine) has developed an oil leak at the rear main seal. Is this the same seal used in all 318 engines used up throught the years and what is involved in the replacement?

Hey Martin, it isn't too hateful. It's the same seal - but the original is probably rope. make sure you angle the flanges on the new seal in the right direction. If memory serves, the flat side of the seal flange should be toward the front of the motor. Pull the pan and use a long/skinny screw to tap into the old seal and slide it out. new 1 goes in the same way (without putting a screw in it :joker )

Do soem research but that's it overall. :study
