I have looked for a couple of days trying to find the right color but I haven't found the correct color. My trans is an np445 4 speed, I just want the color close, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Black or rust. Take your pick. Probably semi gloss black.

I didn't think Ma Mopar painted any transmissions. I've only seen some paint on the bell or front of the trans.

You are probably correct. Cast iron ones do benefit from some paint to prevent going brown .

Does it shift better and run smoother if the color is correct?
Do electrons give a *#%^ what color the insulation is?

The more dirt on my truck the better it runs I have noticed

The NP435 in my '68 W200 was about that same color too.
