Carb problem?

Post by Beals »

68 D100 383. 4 barrel from 68 Newport. Manifolds from 440 motor home. Thrush glass packs. Carter AVS. Had to prime carb, when running burned paint off left muffler. Bad carb?
If it were easy, everyone would do it.

The glass packs i bought were red. Maybe some type paint or coating. Passenger side didn't burn.

The other side will eventually burn too.

If exhaust is cooler on one bank it could be a sign of dead cylinder.

Will check for dead cylinder. Maybe check compression. The motor sat for a long time. Will check easy stuff first( plugs, wires, ) thanks

As Bucky said, the side that DOESN"T burn is the problem.

Of course when I mentioned dead cylinder, I didn't take into account how the engine ran. You didn't specify if it had a miss or not.

Does it run poorly?

Wife said it was missing, nephew said it ran good. The one side didn't get hot until recently. Rings are probably dry from sitting. Will pull the. Plugs and put diesel in the cylinders.
