Got the slant 6 out of my 70 and am prepping it for the engine stand and a thorough go through.
I have always worked with 727 autos and this is my first 4 speed manual transmission.
I want to remove the bellhousing, clutch and flywheel so I can mount the engine on the engine stand. Ive removed all visible bolts, the tin pan on the bottom of the bellhousing, and the starter; the bell housing is still very attached to the engine and I don't want to get rough with it and break the cast housing.
Is there a trick or hidden fasteners I am missing? I know for sure the clutch hasn't been touched in 30 years but the housing seems still bolted to the engine; not even a hint of movement when smacking it with a dead blow hammer on the ears.
Any suggestions on what I am missing out there?

Re: Silly bell housing question
I think the flywheel must come off first.

Re: Silly bell housing question
Looking on the internet I found a couple of references to Dodge trucks with 11" flywheels having an extra couple of bolts holding the bell housing on from the inside.
Does anyone know if this is true?
If so, do I have to remove the clutch and pressure plates to get at them?

Re: Silly bell housing question
Pulled the clutch and flywheel out and I indeed have the three extra bolts inside the top of the bellhousing.
Glad I didn't get carried away with the dead blow hammer trying to get it off!

Re: Silly bell housing question
Later bellhousings didn't have all those headaches.
