69 Dodge W200 318 Transplant 340~440 engine. Help?

Please send me comments:

Currently my 69 W200 PW has a 318, 4 speed manual transmission, with 4WD Transfer case.

1.What engine choices do I have that will bolt up to my current setup ?
( I assume a 340 / 360 will work ? If so What mods should I be aware of ?

2. What mods should I be aware of if I consider 383 / 440.

Thanks for the assistance.

You'll need a big block flywheel and bell housing for the '69 & later Sweptline
mechanical clutch set up. Also, a radiator with a deeper core to keep the engine
cool. You'll need big block engine mount brackets

For the small block, an A318 [Poly], LA340 or LA360 would bolt to the current
bell housing, but I'm not sure of the [balanced?] flywheel for the 360 / 340. Most
likely, others will chime in.... especially on the LA360 or other engine possibilities?

You will need a different flywheel for a 360, I think you could get away with a 318 flywheel on a 340.

Based on this forum the 340 is a bolt in replacement for a 318. The 360 requires a special mount on the right side of the engine and a flywheel for an external balance. The big block needs engine mounts, exhaust manifolds or headers, radiator, different engine wiring harness ( distributor moves from rear to front). I know the bell housing is different and more than likely the pressure plate ( more foot pounds of pressure to handle the increased torque).

I know this is a late response.
Leave the 340 for the guys that need that engine for 68-73 muscle restoration guys. The 340 was called the big block killer. 440 is a huge reconfigure and expensive transplant.
Get yourself a 1968 thru 1971 318. You can find newly rebuilt ones with 350hp for $1500. No need to change cross member or motor mounts. You already have a 68 318. Don't under estimate the 318. Short stroke means you have cam options to make it a torque or hp monster. Check out FABO for tips for adding 100 hp for under $1500.
Good luck on your build but you already have a great starting point.
