1971 D100 318>NV3500 upgrade

Post by crashresq21 »

Need to pick your collective gray matter Gents. So I picked up a 1998 Ram half ton 2wd with a 5.2 liter and the DDC NV 3500 5 speed for free. Usual interrogation of the owner when getting a free truck went well. Single owner old man bought it new and recently put a new clutch in about four thousand miles ago. Plan on stripping out the transmission, clutch and related assemblies, crossmember, hydraulic system, and cutting all wires long ( trucks being disposed of afterwards, frame is shot).

My questions would be:

Anything else you would strip?

Do I have to convert to an electronic speedometer?

Will the clutch pack currently on the 98 fit the 71 by just bolting it up?

What other worries should I have or any other pertinent advice?

I'm not planning on pulling the trigger on the swap until next spring but I just want all the parts available and ready to go just in case I get really motivated, plus the price was almost too perfect to pass up.
