Re: engine bracket dimensions
I believe there is a difference on one side between a 318 and a 360.swampfoxjr wrote:318/360 la block

Re: engine bracket dimensions
i could be wrong but i dont think so all the motor swapping ive done in my bogger the small blocks have all dropped in no issues. the engine is a 318 out of an 84 d250. going in a factory 318 68

Re: engine bracket dimensions
An LA engine to an LA engine should be a bolt in. A six, big block or Poly to an LA is a different story. The LA's share about everything except bore and stroke. 273 to 340 had the same stroke (3.31) and crank main diameter. The 360 had a longer stroke (3.58) and a larger main diameter. The crank being the only non interchangeable bolt on part. All had the same length rods at 6.123. The 318 had a 3.910 bore, the 340 had a 4.040 bore and the 360 had a 4.000 bore. All the heads will interchange as well as all the intakes, rods, push rods, rocker arms and distributors. Internal parts did change through the years but not much. Around the introduction of the 360 the beefier rods from the 340 started ending up in all LA engines and as I understand it the 2.02 valve head surplus was used up with early 360 production.

So what's wrong with setting beneath a single pull string incandescent light bulb writing angry letters?

Re: engine bracket dimensions
I swapped a LA 360 for an exhausted 318 and had to cut and weld one bracket on one side. I don't remember which. But maybe I had a weird bracket to begin with?

Re: engine bracket dimensions
Ok guys either I'm missing something of something is misunderstood. I have then engine brackets from the 84 d250 and new idolaters for the 68. I have bolted one mount or the other and it makes no difference it pushes the motor off center.
If someone could just run out and take a couple measurements it would be great.
If I bolt the isolators up and set the motor down it's as if the block brackets need to be longer. The stud won't sit in the sloted hole

Re: engine bracket dimensions
Ok i got it figured out. I had to slot the slotted holes in the engine side brackets about an inch up further than what they were and it slid right in, cut the factory manual trans bracket just have to get the trans member fabed up and hopefully its smooth sailing from there.
