Floods after long drive and sitting for 30mins

Post by wally426ci »

This is 1 do 2 problems I have not tracked down yet and getting tired of it.

I am thinking that the fuel line under hood gets hot and pushes fuel into the carb which results in flooding. If my theory is correct, has anyone successfully dealt with this? Any other ideas?

Not possible. Full float bowl closes the needle valve and no more fuel can enter the carb long before it could overflow and flood the engine. Furthermore, any pressure in the fuel line from heat would push the fuel backward into the tank as well as toward the engine, and no way the fuel would expand enough to flood an engine.
Sounds like a float bowl leaking into the manifold after shutdown, or maybe a choke not fully open when hot.

Thanks terry, do you have an idea on how I can dig further into a possible float bowl issue?

I was also wondering if fuel boiling with heat under hood would bubble it into the manifold.... it was definitely flooded after I started it again yesterday.

Have you rebuilt it? Sounds like the float is sticking if I am reading this right.

Has your state gone to "oxygenated" winter fuel blend? Here in CA the I have that problem with most carburated vehicles with winter blend fuel.
