Help IDing engine on a 73

Post by WhiteSpyder »

I bought a 73 club cab over the weekend. Nice clean truck and the VIN shows that it should have a 400 engine. THe P.O. said he thinks it is a 360 and has purchased parts based on that assumption. However, I could not see an ID stamp on the block under the distributor. I did find these cast into the block above the starter. (see Pic)

On the front of the block under the head it is very difficult to read the stamping due to rust but I can barely make out the numbers 213. I understand that that is an indication of the heads that should be on the motor. The intake and carb have been swapped to Elderbrock, and I was told that it has a mild cam upgrade. So, can a MOPAR guru help me correctly ID this engine?

360 distributor is in the rear, 400 in the front.

Dizzy is in the rear. So I have a 360! What about the number up front, does this indicate that it was a motor from a motorhome?

The cu.in. is stamped on the block, right where the head meets the block on the left/driverside front. There is a machined pad with the stamping on it.

This is what the front driver side looks like on my block.

If you blow it up you can see a faint 213 or 273 not sure.

Casting number appears muddled from crappy sand casting. Wire brush front numbers under head and paint pen area , Then lightly sand off to see if numbers remain painted. :thinking

Cleaned this up a bit and this is what I can see.

It shows 213. So, is this a engine that's from a motorhome?

The number on the front left spot under head is the sequential number that would match VIN and will show motor size.
