Clutch Engages Top Of Pedal

Post by homeboymi »

I'm not sure how to adjust my clutch. I have a 68 D100 with a /6 engine. It has a fairly new clutch and engages at the top of the pedal. This means I have to fully let the clutch pedal up for the truck to move. Is this normal or is there some kind of adjustment?
Thanks.

I'm not sure if there is an adjustment down by the slave cylinder. If so then its possible that even when the pedal is all the way up you may still be having some slight slippage.

Someone with more knowledge on this subject will chime in hopefully. I do know that mechanical clutches have an adjustment on the rod going to the fork.

U are WAY out of adjustment! There is an adjustment nut on the rod between the fork and slave cyl.

^ Based on this I'd say you need to adjust that rod to make it shorter.

Yes, adjust that rod until there is a small bit of space before it engages. There is a nut on the rod so it's an easy adjustment.

Thanks for the advice to all. I adjusted the rod to 1/8 inch free play. The clutch still does its business near the top of the stroke. Probably just the way it works. I'm used to the clutch releasing near the floor like my other vehicles.

That is wierd..... (Thanks for catching the year up top Terry - I missed it) I wonder if there is something wrong elsewhere in the system? Hydraulic wise..... :thinking
