NP435 questions

Post by wyota884 »

Hi Guys, I need some input. While pulling the transmission out of my early '65 W200, i noticed it is a 10 spline input shaft. When I ordered a clutch for it, everything I can find says it should be a 23 spline. I wonder if it was changed at some point in the past. I know its a close ratio transmission(NP435A with 4.56 1st vs NP435L with 6.68 1st) which i thought was odd for a 4WD truck. Can anyone else confirm what their truck has in it? The tag on stamped into the PTO cover says 2508034 D-3, 8 18 64 435. Thanks for the help!

And www.hrclutch.com WILL have what you need. Give them a phone call. Several members here have dealt with them, including me although I wasn't shopping for NP435 parts.

If you're wanting to buy local try Casper Auto, Inland Truck, Drive Train Industries or Napa. Not sure about the service at Napa and DTI now days but it is very rare to get the wrong parts from Casper Auto and Inland Truck. Or, sounds like hrclutch may be the way to go, I'll be checking out their website when I get a chance. Thanks for mentioning the site Bucky!

Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping that most of the parts listings were wrong for my year and it is a 10 spline. Can anyone confirm that these trucks use a close ratio, tall first gear instead of the granny low? wypowerwagon440, It's good to see another local power wagon guy!

Most of the 4 spd swepts came with a wide ratio trans, but some were ordered with the close ratio. They're both out there, but the wide ratio is much more common. What eng do u have? Close ratio with anything but a big block is not so good for off road.

Actually for the most part it downright sucks even with a BB. Mine was originally a close ratio which Dad ordered because as a street racer at the time I thought close ratio was the way to go. Not so for offroading though. :pale :shame

Not sure where you are on the engine build but Gary at Pentastar Performance is very good. He has a shop out at the airport and is on Facebook, I can get you a number if you need it. I work second shift at Westech in Mills and one of my Power Wagons is usually in the lot across the street. Not always driving a Sweptline but feel free to wheel in and check any of them out. My weekends are pretty jammed up right now but we'll have to hook up sometime.

Gary has my engine right now. Should be cool when it's done. I'll have to swing by and check your trucks out sometime.
