Rear Axel problem
Rear Axel problem
I bought a barn find 1970 D200 383 4 speed, I originally thought it was an open differential, but only the left wheel will spin and move the drive shaft, the right rear wheel spins freely and does not move the the left is moving. I don't know how common or how serious this problem is, I just need some help and advice

Re: Rear Axel problem
A. Does the truck run/drive?
B. If you block the left wheel, does turning the right one cause the driveshaft to spin?

Re: Rear Axel problem
The Dodge "Traction Control" and other limited slip differentials will still spin in opposite directions. Only a "locker" will not spin.

Re: Rear Axel problem
I have never seen a sure grip or other LSD in good working order spin the tires in opposite directions with both tires off the ground and trans in neutral. both tires will spin in the same direction if the LSD is working properly.PwrWgnDrvr wrote:The Dodge "Traction Control" and other limited slip differentials will still spin in opposite directions. Re: Rear Axel problem
Of course not, that's why its "limited slip". BUT, if the trans is in gear, (as Roxy stated) the wheels will spin in opposite directions! A locker wouldn't spin at all.moparbay wrote:I have never seen a sure grip or other LSD in good working order spin the tires in opposite directions with both tires off the ground and trans in neutral. both tires will spin in the same direction if the LSD is working properly.PwrWgnDrvr wrote:The Dodge "Traction Control" and other limited slip differentials will still spin in opposite directions.
