Slant 6 to 318LA

Post by spoilerecw »

Hey guys was curious about what all is involved to swap a 318la auto into place of a slant 6 three on the tree into my 62 d100? Thinking about buying a running early 80s long bed for the donor drivetrain. Are the engine stands to frame different? Will the oil pan clear? Etc, etc? Thanks for your time.

You'll need to remove the hydraulic bell housing frame cross member.
You'll need to find the proper '61-'68 auto tranny cross member/brackets
The engine brackets that are riveted onto your frame are OK. You will
need the engine brackets for an LA318 though. The rubber insulators
for your Slant 6 should be able to be used for the LA318. You'll need a
larger radiator to keep that LA318 cool. You'll need the engine compartment
portion of wiring harness from a 318 Sweptline truck ['62-'68]. You'll need
to sort out a neutral safety switch for that auto tranny. I'm sure others
will add their :2cents as well.

Correctly, and install the proper frame reinforcement spanner.
Obtain the correct driveline.

Its a shaped steel piece that replaces the torched out part of the crossmember and bolts to the remnants of it. Its sort of like a crossmember, but it drops lower to fit under the auto trans. I have one I will sell when u get to that point. U also would need to see pics of where to torch the crossmember. If u take too much, the project gets more serious.
