Well, sometimes I do things without thinking them all the way through...
When I purchased my '64 W200 (did not run) and got it home... I started removing some old junk that I figured that I didn't need, and that I would replace anyway.... old hoses mostly. One of these items was a canister type of deal that connected to one of the heater hoses... it had an old style 2-prong plug that you plugged in. I figured that this was an old type of setup to keep the block from freezing in northern climates... but hell, I live in Mississippi, so I pulled it and through it in a pile that would eventually get thrown away.
Fast forward 6 months and I've got the motor running... new plugs, wires, wiring harness, distributor, starter relay, ballast resister, etc... and now, new radiator and heater hoses. I connect all of my new hoses and fill it with water so that I can flush out the radiator and block, and I see all of this water coming out the bottom of the truck! Man, I thought I had stumbled on a major problem... but when I inspected the motor, I found a 3rd heater hose connection on the lower left side of the motor! Immediately i'm thinking, "what the world does that connect too?"
That is when I remembered that old plug-in heater... so now i'm thinking that I need to get a T connector for my heater hose, and run this bottom one up and tie in with intake manifold hose.
Thoughts? Outside of never throw away old parts?

Assuming this to be an A318, my thinking is that this connection might be makingGigabitdrew wrote:but when I inspected the motor, I found a 3rd heater hose connection on the lower left side of the motor! Immediately i'm thinking, "what the world does that connect too?"

use of the left side block drain? If this is the case, you should be able to
remove this connection and put a brass NPT plug back in there. Can you post pics?

Re: Extra heater hose connection
The hose fed into lower block water fitting may have been for a recirculating block water heater. The pump style.
My truck is younger than me.

To me, that appears to be the location of the factory NPT screw
in drain plug. If that nipple going into the block is threaded [hard to
see in the pic], I would back it out and buy the correct block plug
and be done with it.
