pinion yoke stuck

Post by oldodger »

Trying to fix a leaky pinion shaft seal on my 61 D100. Struggled to get the nut off, but now I can't get the yoke off. Broke one cheapo puller and stripped the threads on another. Does that thing even come off? Any ideas on how to get the yoke off?
Thank you.

Yes.... It does come off. You might try shooting a bit of rust eater on
the spline area. Tap the yoke lightly with a ball peen hammer and repeat
the process a couple of times. Hook up a decent puller and tighten it up.
Keep soaking that area, tapping lightly with a hammer, turning the puller
tighter and repeating the process. :2cents

Nothing better than a collection of tried and true BFH's. Small for the intricate beating of teeny tiny parts and the 20 lb one for those :banghead immovable large heavy bugger's. :pale :thinking :Thumbsup

Thanks for all the advice. I'll hit it (literally?) this weekend and let everyone know how it went.

Thank you, John, for excellent advice. Your process, described above (using PB Blaster) did the trick.

Glad to help. :Thumbsup
If you run into issues with getting drums off those tapered axles, this same process
should work.... but it'll take about 9 days and 4 cans of PB Blaster to accomplish... :banghead :censored  :joker
