There are quite a few things that can affect your truck's cold running issues. I think before anyone dives in, we need some more info. How long have you had the truck vs. the problem? Did it suddenly get this way or was it more gradual? Have you replaced any parts yet? Etc. :thinking

it has always been cold ,but I could get it to idle until it warmed up before then drive it.I had the carburator rebuilt a month ago and now it wont idle when cold.Have to rev it up some.It runs fine once it is warmed up.If the water temperature on the water temperature gauge does not read 180 degrees.it always stalls at the first stop.usually a busy intersection. It had sat for a year although I did start it weekly. Thanks so much.

I bought the truck in 1994.Have had it for 17 years now.Yes ,although it always has been cold blooded ,it seems to have gradually gotten worse through the years. Thanks

saw that the points were gapped a little too wide so I closed the gap and now it idles well with out having to reve it up for fear of it stalling.Still cold ,but I can live with that as before I guess.Just let it warm up for ten minutes or so and it's good. Thanks

2 things come to my mind:

1: Is the choke working properly?
2: Have you done a valve adjustment recently? It can do WONDERS on a slant six. :)
If it's a truck/industrial slant six I have found that it likes to be set a little more loose than a car slant six. .12-intake, .22-exhaust. Just my experience. ;)

The heat risers on intake manifolds can get
clogged up with carbon, sludge, etc. over the
years and prevent this area from warming
quickly. This can cause the engine to run
rough. I had this happen to a '79 W200 I
plowed snow with. I pulled the intake, cleaned
the sh*t out of it, stuck it back on and didn't
have another problem with it. :2cents
