Intake manifolds
My intake manifold is shot. My question is I found a torker 2 its for a 340 will this fit and work on my 318? I know there both small blocks but thats about all I know. And also for power what would be better dual plane manifold or single? and what makes them diffrent?

Re: Intake manifolds
Most will say that a dual plane is better for torque, which is the lower rpm power that you need in daily driving, accelerating, etc. Single planes are considered best for top end power, wide open throttle, running from the law down the interstate type of driving.
It has been said that the "Torker" name is a misnomer, being that other Edelbrock manifolds (dual plane) make more usuable torque than the Torker. I don't know how the I & II versions differ. I run an original Torker on my 440 w/o any problems.

The size of the In-Take Ports going into the heads of any 318 can be labeled
as a 1/2 inch hole.
The size of the In-Take Port leaving the LA-340 ( or LA-360 ) In-take Manifold
can be labeled as a 3/4 inch pipe diameter. You can see that it will bolt on,
but the air flow from the 3/4 " pipe to the 1/2" hole will be botttle necked
into a "ledge".
All the already given information on the Dual Plane being the better is very
true.
If you have not changed the Exhaust from the Exhaust Manifolds to a "dual
exhaust" already, you are wasting the benifit of using the 4 bbl Manifold and
the matching 500 CFM 4 bbl Carb.

Re: Intake manifolds
I run a edelbrock streetmaster manifold, (single plane), and an edelbrock 1406 carb. with dual exaust. it is true that the low end torque is not as good as a dual plane, but on the highway it runs like a scalded ape, and pulls on hills with no bogging down. I am very happy with the performance on the top end, and i am not one to race stoplight to stoplight it fits my requirements nicely. Ozzie.

Re: Intake manifolds
Awesome thank you guys I learned alot. I am running dual exhaust with no crossover just straight pipe. I decided to go with the edelbrock streetmaster intake because I like going fast I found one on ebay for $85 after shipping I picked it up for $102. Which is cheaper then any performer I could find. Thank you guys again.
