Oil Filter 361

Post by Dozer »

I just picked up a 65 with a 361 in it and it has one of the fender mounted oil filters on it. It looks like the plumbing on it uses bypassing oil to the filter and then just dumps it back into the pan after being filtered. The original filter bowl has been replaced with what looks the same but is only 2 inches long. Since I want to go back to someting that filters the oil going to the bearings, I can find one of the longer bowls OR is there a later model adapter that bolts to the block that takes a spin on filter? :?:

Well I went into the local Napa and asked to see a 361 oil pump and a 383 oil pump and the fellow sat a pump with a spin on filer on the counter. I asked, which one is that? Both he said, the 361 takes a spin on filter now. Well imagine that! Something easy for a change. So pump is installed, oils being filtered to the bearings also now., life is good. Hello, tap tap tap, this thing on? :usa

Hye Dozer,

Welcome to the site!

I'm glad the parts guy was able to help you out! You have any pictures of your ride?
