indicated speed to slow

Post by MowagW200 »

:) When I'm driving about 50 km/h (34 mph), the speedmeter shows about 40. When I'm driving 80 km/h ( 50 mph) it shows little bit more than 70, the same, when I'm driving 100 km/h ( 62 mph). The metric counter counts about 85 to 90% of the distance I've driven. The rear end is 4.89:1, the tires are 8.25 - 16. I want to replace it with alloy wheels and 265/75R16 on 8"- rims. Do you have any clue, what I've to replace that the speedometer and the counter becomes more accurate?
Thanks a lot! :D

id be willing to bet your speedo gears in the tranny arent for a 4.89 gear. judging by the difference, they are probably set up for a 4.10 ratio. id look into the proper tranny speedo gear or maybe a conversion box, a lot of the speed shops sell a gear reduction box that goes inline at the tranny between it and the speedo cable that can be dialed in.

Thanks, Trey
I'm gonna have a look for a speed- shop in my country. Hope I'll find the right thing.

you know with the larger diameter tires you plan on putting on, it may get it pretty close to accurate. check with any off road shops in your area as well, they usually offeer a speedo box that you can calibrate. it goes in line between the tranny and the speedo and is adjustable to get you back to where you need to be. pretty popular around here for the modified trucks with the huge tires that screw up there speedo accuracy.
