Here are some progress pictures:

First, cut rivets and moved the rear frame cross member back about 5 inches

Then bolted the tank and framework to the bottom of the frame rails

Here is what it will look like with my bumper installed

Then installed a stainless steel fuel filler in the rear drivers side fender

The fuel fill will connect with the tank using flexible fuel fill hose. Still need to install the aluminum fuel lines up to the pump and wire up the sender.

I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze in a tank where the spare tire went and get a Class IV hitch mounted... oh, and I'd love a 40 gallon tank. I may run out of room.

Here is a pic of my new bed wood. Stock 1X8 red oak from Home Depot. New bolt kit from Mar-K. Reused the existing steel strips and just painted them black.

New bumper fully installed. Also scored a set of tail lights of a 79 Ute, that look brand new, for only $40 on Ebay and put them on.

Here is my new tank, all snug in its new bed...

The stock fuel sender is working great. All I had to do was put a "Z" bend in the float rod and cut about 1 1/4" off the pickup tube.

Will the mid-ship tanks out of a mid 70's to '93 work on these trucks?

Yes, and no. Here is the install on my D series: http://demulsion.wordpress.com/2010/01/ ... tank-swap/ I'm going to be back at the drawing board when I convert to 4wd here soon.

When I do the Cummins conversion i am going to use the transmission and transfer case from the Cummins as well, which in (my) theory should move the transfer case further forward. Do you think that will make enough difference to make it work on the W-series?
