318 poly intake source???

Post by truckluvr »

Welcome fellow truck lovers! Just discovered your bulletin board. WOW! Wish I'd have known about it sooner! Looking into getting a project truck and have narrowed my search down to either a 65 D100 stepside or a 67 D100 full size. The 65 has a slant six auto and the 67 has a poly 318 4sp. I like the looks of both but which ever I get will probably get a newer 318/360 4bbl transplanted. I really like the idea of having a 4 speed and was told that the newer V-8's would bolt right in. I would consider building up the original poly but I can't find anyone who sells 4bbl dual plane intakes or performance pistons or cams and I'm not wanting to spend a fortune on custom stuff. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. :welcome
I just built up a Poly 318 last year. We didn't use many performance parts. The engine machinist found all the pistons, cam, rings, etc. The 4BBL intakes are hard to find. Weiand used to make an aluminum intake (now discontinued). The Weiand number was 7503. There were also cast iron intakes, which I am using, that came off late 50's cars (I think :study ). Intakes show up on eBay once and a while but are always expensive.

I just finished putting in a 1979 360 ci in a friend's '62 D200. I ran it for the first time today and it ran great. Anyways the LA 318, 340 and 360's bolt up to the Poly 318 bellhousings with the exception that one hole needs to be drilled and tapped for the extra hole in the engine block.

Sir

As you read this remember the fractory stopped using a
4 bbl on the A-318 in the closing of the 1962 production line.
A couple of after market companies soon jumped in to take
advantage of this to the ones who just had to have the
4 bbl unit.

The car divisions had a 4 bbl, not the trucks. The car divisions
had dual exhaust with this engine, not the truck divisions. Then
the truck division found out how to enhance the power with only
one muffler to get the same power, and they did.

Here is some information .
