What transmission do I have??

Post by farmhand66css »

Can you guys tellme what trany I have? I don't know where to look. It is a 4 speed, but don't know if it is original. I was cleaning it up and found a tag reads: 2513439 DA 17B 11 1 65 435

Could this be the original 4 speed trans?? It looks like an aluminum cover and a red bellhouseing. There is a electrical plug on the top left what could it be for??

Thanks Guys! Matt

PS still looking for a 318 poly!

Well I can't help with the identification but I can tell you that the electical plugs are usually for reverse lights / neutral start safetys.

ok matt, look at the last numbers 435. you got a np435. yes that could be original, i got the same in my parts truck. maybe the other set means it was produced in 65??? as to what 435, that you would have to tell me what the first gear ratio is. see how many times the input shaft turns in comparision to the output shaft in first gear and let me know, then i can tell you for sure. as for the red bell, is it cast iron or steel? red painted cast iron id say someone just painted the original last time they changed the clutch. red steel, its an after market hi-po piece, mad for racing to prevent the clutch from taking your feet off if it lets go at high rpms. as for the plug, its for reverse lights. get me the approx first gear and ill let you know more.

Trey,

looks like a cast bell housing. I wasn't sure if this was the original trany or if it was one from the 360.

I guess I will clean it up for keeps. still waiting for someone to find me a poly to drop in the truck.

Thanks guys. Matt
