Just called Clifford and gave him a fairly large portion of my mind! :censored I'm getting the usual customer service from them. I think he knows I'm serious about bugging him often until I get them. That's one of the last parts I'm waiting on (although none of it is put together yet...)

What do you know, not half an hour after I talked to Larry (the owner) and chewed him up side and down the other for chitty customer service, he called back and said, "I just got a set of black ceramic coated slant six headers and if you want, I'll split the cost of the ceramic coating with you and send them out to you today." I said yes, and so I should be getting them here pretty soon. Glad it worked out well...

Use a throttle cable for the linkage. Then you can point the carb any direction you'd like

Headers are in! Man, do they look sweet! I'll post some pics tonight. My Accel HEI module also came in, and my EI distributor should be in any day. Now if I can just get the machine shop to hurry and get done with the block...they've gone 2 weeks over what they initially said. Seems typical of a lot of machine shops. Hopefully assembly will be coming soon...

Got the block back and painted it. I also got the pistons, rings and bearing. After I started to put the motor together, I noticed they gave me the wrong bearings :banghead . They gave me bearings for a cast crank slant six, not a forged crank slant. I was really hoping to get it together this weekend, but now I'll have to sort out with the machine shop about the right bearings, etc. Just about all the parts are in, just waiting for a few small peices, like carb spacers and distributor cap and rotor to go on my EI distributor.

Here's a picture of what the head looks like with the manifold and headers on:

Stephan that is looking awesome! I can't wait to see the finished motor. I have 4 /6 motors in my shop. I've always wanted to build one up like that!

Dean,
Stock rockers. Using larger valves (1.70 intake and 1.44 exhaust) backcut. They make roller lifters and roller rockers for the /6, but they are way way expensive-not very many people use them unless for a drag only engine. The cam is a 280 degree .465" lift. Stock pushrods and lifters as well. The rockers are adjustable, so higher lift cam isn't a problem.

Not sure about stock springs-I imagine a local parts store could get them, and if not there, then a machine shop could probably order then for you. Might try ebay. I have 340 high performance springs on my head-they are the recommended springs for slant sixes with high lift cams.

If you are interested, I can give you my old ones. They are the stock ones and are all in good shape. The engine only had 60,000 miles on it, so they should be ok. Just curious, why are you getting new ones, did you break one of yours? If you are interested, email @ bluedog64@sbcglobal.net or PM me.

Got the correct bearings in finally. I guess the wait was ok because I was able to do some body work on the truck. Got the ARP rod bolts pressed in and also pressed the new pistons on the rods. Had to heat the rods up to about 275-300 degrees to press the wrist pins in. Put the rings on the pistons last night. I got the crank in and the rear main seal and main caps on last night, too. If nothing goes terribly wrong this weekend, I'll get the pistons/rods in and hopefully the rest of the motor as well. I'd really like to have it all together this weekend if I could, exluding some of the smaller stuff like alternator, carb, etc. I still have to get a throttle cable. I got two 2" spacers to go in between the carb and intake. Looks a little goofy having the carb that high off the manifold, but it supposed to help with the mixing process and get the mixture moving a little faster before it goes into the combustion chamber. Just a few more parts to get: throttle cable, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil filter, fuel filter, fuel line, etc. Got all the big stuff. As soon as it's all done I'll try and add up as best I can the cost of everything and post it so if you're thinking about doing something similar you can have an idea of the dough involved. too much already...

Sorry, forgot to post a picture of the headers. Here's a mock up of the headers and intake on the head. I think they look pretty good, and am very anxious about seeing how they sound.

School has been busy beyond all belief and there has been no time to work on the motor. :banghead I've got the motor all together with the exception of oil pump, fuel pump and ignition system. Going to bite the bullet and put off homework this weekend and work on it. Doubt I'll get it in, but at least I'll get a lot of it done. I just ordered a set of Magnecor plugs wires; they are supposed to be pretty good from what I hear. Now all I have to buy is a throttle cable, clutch kit, cap and rotor and then I'm set. I'll be glad when it's done...
