More 727 and tailshaft questions

Post by j2007 »

I am running a 400 with a 727 behind it, and it is out of a 73 d200. I fear it may not hold up much longer and I am going to start searching for a spare unit. My question is what is the best year to get one from (vehicles that had better units). Also, are the tailshafts interchangabe?

Sir

The unit that you have should be the "Short Shaft".

The strongest ones are in the Dodge Van's and Truck's after
1972 with either the 440 or the 400.

In the car division's they are all "long shaft's". On any given
day the strongest ones are used in the Imperial Division
since they alway have a 5,000 pound curb weight.

From 1966 the Imperial Division only came with the 440's.

NAPA has the complete re-built kit for your transmission.

Yes to your question of Long Shaft to Short Shaft inter-change.
