Driveshaft orientation

Is a double cardan joint used to connect the drive shaft between the transmission and the third member pinion gear?

no. just a regular universal at each end of driveshaft

Depends on year of van. Some years had the ball and trunion with flange on rear of transmission.
My truck is younger than me.
