Might sound lame, admittedly a bit of the easy way out. Pay for it what you think its worth. You can figure out what its worth by making a breakdown of its various parts. Of course if you're buying it always be prepared to beat the guy up a little, have the cash you are willing to spend in one pocket and the extra you are willing to go in another. Biggest thing is not taking too big of a hit. What I mean by that is if it's going to cost you 1500 to get the tranny repaired then you can be the "Nice guy and choose to come out of pocket taking the "hit",or try and have the guy reduce his price by that much. Inevitably, most older vehicles are a love affair from the start. If you love what you are looking for and have the money to spend then no price is too high. All this being said... If you are selling it, how in love with it are you? There really is no price on sentiment. And the guy buying it is not emotionally invested so you will get nowhere asking him to pay for your memories.
