alternator wire conection at the alternater

Post by blounstation »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have 68 a-108 van and a black wire at the alternator is not connected, and I'm not sure where it is supposed to go. there are three wires total,GREEN,BROWN and BLACK. The brown goes to a nut towards the top and the green is fat and goes to the "post".Any ideas about the black one?
thx

your wire colors do not sound correct for the alt, but the black sounds like your ground to the case of the alt.

Is your gauge showing any action?
Is there anouther plug-in on the alt that is not
used?
What type of regulator do you have, face pug-in type
or black box with a plug and screw?

Wire that is nuted to alt should be a heavy gauge wire,
any wire that with a pug-in that runs to alt should be lighter gauge.

my van is a wiring nightmare to say the least but I did find where the wire was attached and it looks like it's a ground to the alt case. now I know my gauge doesn't work. It's just sitting between chg and dischg.
