how to pull the engine on an A 108?

Post by 2bluesweptlines »

I'm thinking about buying an A 107 a guy has for sale around here with a slant six that has tossed a rod. While I would not likely mess with it for a good while, being pre-occupied with my '64 D100, it is a pretty good deal and I would like to save it for later. The question is, in general (no need for extreme detail, I just want the main idea), how do you pull the engine on an A 108? The engine sits right between the driver and pass seat. Does the body have to come off?

Thanks in advance

If you are taking it out the top you will likely need to pull the transmission first. I have a pick up so it came out through the passenger door. You might get it out the side cargo doors if you pull the rear portion of the doghouse.

It's possible to leave the transmission attached, but just be careful coming out the passenger door

After taking apart the dog house and removing the radiator (take care not to damage the radiator), I pulled mine out the passanger door and sent the block off to the machine shop. It was stripped down to the long block at that point. When Installing the fresh rebuild, I went in through the side doors. (dont recall why) I should mention that In either case the transmission was not attached and something was needed to support the back end of the block.
