4x2 to 4x4 Conversion Question

Post by Hobcobble »

I have all the fixins to make a W200. I will be
swapping over the leaf springs/axles from my '68
W100 to a '68 D100 [128"] frame. Can anyone tell me
what needs to be done in order to sawp the springs
onto this D100 frame? Seems to me that the spring eye
bolts were larger in diameter? :thinking Has
anyone done this conversion out there? All the other
stuff [t-case/c-member, etc.]seems pretty straight
forward. :study

John,
When I put 68 w200 springs on my 69 w100 frame ,I did have to drill the holes.I dont remember it being a big deal.
As many of these trucks as you have put together,it should be like falling off a log.

Why dont you just do a body swap?

The 4x4's have heavier duty springs than the 4x2's, at least trhough '68. They are basically 3/4 ton underpinnings. 8 bolt axles and the whole shebang. '69 and up are different.

Precisely :Thumbsup . Through '68, the W100's had
the 114" wheelbase and came equipped with the 8
lug Dana 44 & Dana 60 axles mounted on W200 spring
packs. I have a nice 128" wheelbase D100 frame
[and, more importantly the title for it] that I'd
like to use.

Doug.... if its as easy as just drilling out the
spring bracket holes.... I'm golden :Thumbsup

Yea,that's what I did.It was a long time ago,but it seems like I only had to do the ones for the back axel.I think the front axel had the same size on both trucks. :thinking Anyway, good luck! :salut

Not sure what spec catalog everyone is reading, but my info indicates that a W100 with all optional springs is close to being a base W200, but a W200 with the optional springs (1550# front and 2600# rear) and large knuckle front axle will hold more weight than a W100...
