Ok,
I have a 63 by title 62 by serial number with a 420 trans
also have a 66 with a 435
Why can't I use the bell and 435 out of the 66 in the 63
I know that the 435 will NOT work with the 420 bell,as the input shaft is of a different legth
not that I think it matters from half to 3/4 ton but both are 3/4 ton 4X4s

is 62 -63 the change to the 435?
my 64 has a 435

ramble ramble ramble on & on
guess it's the pain killers

If the overall lengths are the same, everything else being equal, I'd go
with the NP435 as you gain synchro between 2nd & 3rd. I can't give
you the exact year of the transition to the NP435... [I'll do a thorough
investigation if you'd like..... it'll only cost you a handfull of those pain
killers :dance]

Bell housing sould be the same in 62 as in 66 and there should
be no differance.
The same bell was used behind all 225 and 318 engines all
those years with 68 being the last year it was used.

My parts book shows a differant number for the 435 after
43000 which would be 65 in the D100 and D200 trucks
What that differance is would be hard to say since it shows
no changes in the 420 for the same years;
also a change in numbers after 602824(sometime in 66) in the W trucks
for the W trucks in the 435, all the 420 are the same.
Now there may be a differance in the bushing in the
end of the crank were the imput shaft goes that would
keep a 435 from going all the way in.

There is a crank change pre 62 in how long it is (62 and late
is shorter than the 61 and earlier).
There is no reason that the 66 bell should not bolt to the
earlier truck, since it's the same bell as far as I can tell.
