New W200 owner needs tires.

Hello all,

I introduced myself in the chit chat section today. Looks like I have found the right forum, I am happy to be part of the Sweptline internet community!

I need to do a few thing to this truck and need some advice and opinions. First thing I need to do is get the big super swampers off of it. It does better than I expected dragging them along, but It looks like someone added longer bolts to the steering stops to keep them from hitting the frame or leafs.
The fronts are 35x12.5x15 and the rears are 35x14.5x15. My current idea is to buy some steel 17" wheels so I can down cycle tires from my Jeep onto the power wagon. I currently have 35x12.5x17 Tread Wright Mud Claws on the Jeep that are about 60% tread left. The Jeep is my daily driver and the Power Wagon wont see nearly as many miles as the Jeep. I want to throw some BFG All Terrains on my Jeep because I have some expedition type travel planned in it and the Mud Terrains kind of suck driving 6 hours a day on. I measured, and my 35" mud terrains measure 33.5" and are only 11" wide vs. 35" and 13" for the front Super Swampers.

What is the best size wheel and tire? Should I just forget being able to share tires between the Jeep and the PW? Suggestions? Pics of your rigs and the tire/wheel size would be apreciated.

I have 265/75/16 BFG All terrain T/As with no issues other than they are load range D. Doesn't sound like that would be a problem for you.

I have searched and am having trouble finding what I need to know about wheels, offset, and back space.

From what I have gathered so far, it seems I need to find some wheels with 3" to 3 1/2" of back space. Offset (I assume) will end up around 4.5" for an 8" wheel. Since my truck already has HUGE super swampers under it, I am pretty sure most other 35x12.5x17's will fit just fine and work better than whats on it.

Do I get the same wheels for front and rear? The current rear wheels are very wide and have 35x14.5 swampers on them. I plan to run the same sizes front and rear. It there a reason that the rears would need a different offset or backspace?

Assuming this truck to have original axles/hubs then the front & rear wheels are to be the same. That's the way it came from the factory.

Offset/backspacing differences in front/rear wheels normally come into play when someone wants to switch from a dually set-up to super singles..... or they're trying to fit an oversized wheel in a space that it never was intended to be.

Yes, I meant negative offset on the rear is huge, very deep dished.

I do assume the axles are stock, closed knuckle D44 front, D60 rear. I really want to get these crappy super swampers off.
Can anyone recommend a wheel? Or show me a picture of their set up and what the specs are. I am totally flexible as to what size tires and what wheels I end up with, I just don't want whats on it now. I was only considering using the tires off my jeep because I have them already. 35" may not be what I want to keep on this, and I probably won't be able to fit them after I take the homemade 4" body lift off the cab, unless I decide to install some different leafs, which if I do, the Skyjacker soft ride 2 to 3" lift springs appeal to me, at least in the front, maybe not so soft in rear.

I am not using this truck off road, but it will see a lot of unpaved roads, some 2 track, but nothing a stock 4x4 pickup wouldn't be able to do. If I want to off road, I've got a Jeep JK, and an airplane on 31" Bushwheels.

Stock wheels were 16" splits. I'm guessing you don't want splits.

I gave you the tire spec and you said nothing, so here are the wheels on my truck now:

Wheels:
Ford 6J 28378 16X6 3045# @ 80psi max 4.75” offset

Tires:
BFG Mud T/A LT265/75/16 Load Range D 3,000 31.7" OD

They work. If you want much bigger, you'll have to fit them.

I have 33x12.50x16.5s on my 65. They fill up the wheel well nicely but don’t rub on anything. No lift or cutting to clear things.

I checked out you web site, looks interesting, I will come back to it when I have time to give it a good read. The intro page really got me interested, I don't think I have ever read a statement more aligned with my own beliefs. The area I live in has just recently been "discovered" by woke environmentalists who have lived their lives in apartments in Seattle and are now trying to change the ways of our farmers, who have been doing things the same way for 150 years now. Both sides seem to have it completely wrong. It looks like your doing it right.

Here’s what it’ll look like with original 16 inch split rims, and some Coker tire skinny traxion big lug bias plys.
If you’re going for bad @#% vintage look,…can’t beat the original set up. It always turns heads.

I run 265/75/16 load range E mounted to early 80 GMC/Chev rims with centers enlarged a bit to fit over hub. Tubeless and no locking ring to deal with. Good rim upgrade and cheap.

What are your thoughts on how a 66 truck has 67 and later doors and an emblem that didn't exist until 68? (Can't see it well enough to determine if its a 68 emblem or 69-71 version). The cab stamping where the door strike is mounted would be definitive as that changed starting in 67, as seen here:

On my 96 Ram 3500 Club Cab long box it has Job Rated emblems on both doors. My 97 Ram 1500 Club Cab short box is badged as a FARGO.
Never been a stickler for complete originality.
