Spring help

Post by manderson17 »

I have sourced 2 different Dana 60 axles for my 70 crew cab. First one is from 77 dodge w200 military truck, second from a square body Chevy. Planning on getting all steering components from which ever axle I buy, but wondering if I should get springs to go with them. Read on other post that camber is different from sweptline to later dodges? If the Chevy is the better option should I get springs from it also? Going to do axle swap instead of frame swap.

How is the Dodge Dana set up? Manual locking hubs or full time? Not that this has anything to do with springs but it may make a difference in your choice.

It's full time but going to switch it to manual locking hubs when I go through it.

Dana 60 That was used in the full time trucks had a provision to bolt lock out hub right on. I installed hubs on my old 76 Dana 60 front end.
Hubs from Chrysler parts in 1990 cost me $100 for the pair. :dance :dance

I put a Dana 60 from a 79 dodge in my 65 W200, I used the springs from the 65 but I had to use 3 degree wedge shims to get the pinion angle correct and then the caster angle was acceptable. I’ll have to go back and look at my notes to get the exact angles. The Dana 60 right side spring mount is cast into the diff housing, so shims are the only way to change pinion/ caster angle. The Chevy springs are a different width than the Dodges, they won’t mount to the shackle and frame.

Sorry for late response, been gutting my son's house. Wyota884 thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll just go ahead and use the axle from the dodge then. Again thank you for the help.
