69 W200 Transfer Case Crossmember

I'm chasing down some driveline vibration on my 69 crew cab. The T-case cross member is a retrofit from an unknown truck and I had to drill new holes since none aligned with frame. This crew was 4x2 until I converted to 4x4.

I think I'd like to replace the cross member with a known good un-bent unit as a starting point. Does anyone know where I could get a new or used crossmember. T-case is divorced NP205.

I see on internet that some people make their own. Anyone have ideas on whether I should find used or try the McGyver route?

I have one from a 69-71. Rest of the frame scrap, I salvaged all that was good. Not sure how much shipping would be though. Let me know if you are interested.

Yes I'm interested. What part of the country are you in? I'll look around for shipping options and get back to you. I'm guessing 1'X1'X3.5' would be the box size. Could you provide pictures?

Ok. I need psychotherapy.

Engine angle ( on my driveway) is +4.5 degrees downhill. My transfer case is +3.8. As measured by the bottom of the input vs. output shaft. My rear differential is -6 as measured from the top of the leaf spring riser (see photo). I don't know what a good reference angle is from the rear axle. Ideas?

Are you saying the rear differential pinion is pointed down?

Ok. Photo added. The angle I refer to is that flat riser head just below the leaf spring. Another reference point is the rear pumpkin cover flange minus 90 degrees. That Dana rear axle doesn't seem to have any easy obvious reference point.

You need to remove the cap straps and bolts(and driveshaft end of course) and get the angle off the front face of the yoke.

Thanks. I took the drivelines off and took the following measurements at each pinion flange.

Front to back....on my driveway which is not totally flat. Front of truck higher than back, but its all relative.

* Back of engine/transmission = 5 degrees downhill
* transfer case = 3.5 degrees downhill
* Rear axle pinion = 1.5 degrees positive tilted up towards T-case.
* Did not measure front axle yet.

These are average numbers. I used cell phone and harbor freight digital meter. Quite a bit of variability so I averaged.

Adjusting the transfer case will be easy as there is play from holes being slightly larger than bolts. I'll leave the top front bolts tight then use a jack to allow it to swing to desired angle before tightening.

On rear axle, looks like I could shim either 3 degrees or four. I have 2 degree and 4 degree shims but would need to buy 3 degree if used.

Whew!.....

Any feedback or advice guys? Any recommendations on "inclinometer"?
