Dana 60 front

Post by marklein »

I have a chance to buy a 78 1 ton 4x4 cheap. I would suspect it has a dana 60 front diff. It has the offset front wheels and duals on the rear. How much work will it be to put this diff in the front of my 67 W100? I want to go high steer, and it is a lot less work to make a 60 high steer than a 44. Who has done it and how much work is it? Might use the rear diff too.

Leaf spring pad width is the same.
If using the 67 front springs it is suggested to flip the springs end for end to help correct the castor angle. I added 2 degree shims on the Dana 60 in my 62 W100 to bring the total castor angle to +2° from +4°.

As for the dually hubs, I have seen guys machine the dually flange off of the hub and move the wheel mounting surface back to the non dually hub position (up against the rotor).

I'm using a 92 Dodge SRW (single rear wheel) Dana 60 front on my 62 W100. Also using the same axle on my 65 W200 which has crossover steering but no high steer.
What steering box are you planning on using for your high steer?

I would like to use the f250 box, but have not found one yet. I have a 89 ish 4x4 dodge one I can use, and it may be the one I use. I mistakenly said high steer, crossover would be a better choice of words.

I've just finished rebuilding a D60 out of a 79. It was a single wheel, so no help there. You might consider a set of hub/ rotor assemblies from a chevy D60, then you can add locking hubs. I'll be swapping it in shortly, I'm waiting on a 79 F250 steering box to arrive so I can mount it up and setup the crossover steering. I ordered some caster shims to fix the castor angle issue. I'll post pics as I go. Good luck on your swap.
