67 Fargo W100

Post by marklein »

Hi all, picked up another W100 today. 1967 Fargo W100, 114 in wb, 318 poly v8, 4spd. No engine or trans, but tcase still there. I seem to recall reading here that there were very few Fargo w100's made. Any idea how many were made? I found some info, someone contacted Chrysler Canada, and according to them there were 100 of these made, with 58 being v8's. I cannot confirm this, but I may contact them myself.

And in my back yard is the remains of a 66 W200 FARGO and a 68 D100 LB FARGO. And a 57 FARGO D300 nose. And also my 70 D500 FARGO. Gotta have FARGO. :Thumbsup :dance :clap
My truck is younger than me.

It was me who contacted them, I may have mentioned it in a post on here. I have the email tucked away and I'd have to look at it again for the exact number but it was either 100 or a few shy of 100.
The and there was a literally a few more 318's made then /6's, That's as far as they broke it down back then.
Lets see some pics. There was a beat up red one on Kijji not to long ago was that the one? I've never heard of anyone else owning a 67 W100 other then me (and the one on the ad), cool!
Does it have the Fargo radio, larger steering wheel, And screws attaching the VIN Plate?
I picked mine up around Onoway AB about 10 years ago.

It is not the red one from the kijiji ad, but I did find it on kijiji. It is a $300 truck that has no motor or trans, but the tcase and shafts are still there. The cab is better than most, with no seat, rusted out cab mounts, and the outer cowl area being bad, the rockers and steps do not appear to be bad, but until I have a real good look, I can't say for sure. It has a decent set of white spoke wheels that are probably worth what I paid for the truck. There is no grill, the rad support is not bent, but has rust holes, the front fenders have rust along the edge where the fender is attached to the inner fender, they were upside down in the back. The box is a made up thing, it looks like some kind of army replica piece. I would like to restore it because of it's rarity. I will post pics when I can. It is turf green in color. I will start to amass parts for it and it will be a slow process to get it back on the road. Is there a way to tell if it was a ute or standard box?

Yes the frame is a couple inches shorter in the rear if its a Ute. Well mine was a basket case too, I've used 2 parts trucks to put mine back together, sounds like you have the patience for it.
The Fargo radio was by far the hardest part for me to find, the tailgate was a challenge too. Is the Cab a 'custom' ?

They are very rare however there are two other 67 Fargo W100 SWB Power Wagons in southern Alberta amongst my collection of duallys, and a W200, 0ne is a Ute converted to a sweptline the other is a sweptline from day one. Let me know what you need parts wise I might be able to assist you. Grab all the Fargo emblems you can from any vintage of Fargo as these pieces are in demand and highly sought after. If your looking for a radio I know of one out of the 68 crew SWB I sold a couple of years ago.

There isn't a radio in it, although there is a hole in the dash, looks as though someone may have cut it there. I do not have a complete grill for it, but I do have a steel one that needs lots of straightening. The pie tin front end is not my favorite, but due to the rarity of this truck, I can overlook it's looks. I have a trans for it, bell housing, rad, starter, I have a line on a couple of poly's if I go that way, leaning toward using a 360 magnum with the injection system. That will require some more research. Reason for that is I have a magnum that had a standard behind it from the factory. It has a very large steering wheel in it, but I have not measured it. The cab is indeed a custom, has the drip rail trim, albeit some is missing. I will need all except the drivers side piece. One set of the power wagon hood emblems is missing too. The hood is rusted on the very front, that I can repair, but the bolt holes for the hinges are broken out, not sure if they are repairable. I have another hood anyway. It has screws attaching the vin plate, almost all fargos and dodges in Canada are that way, in my travels anyway.

Yup they're rare alright but not collectable, might as well do what works for you.
Unfortunately some dodge folks are buying up the fargo badges making it harder to restore real fargos.
I got a decent Fargo tailgate from a guy in Sask. and had someone but weld the stamping into a reproduction tailgate. Looks pretty good

I know that they have no real value to collectors, but it sure is cool to take one out and have people stare because they have not seen one before. My 70 is that way, great fun to take somewhere and have heads turn. This one may be a long time before it sees the light of day again, have plans to resurrect it though. It will be staying the turf green, cool color imho. Duke, that box and tailgate look great.

I am down to my last set of driver set 61/68 FARGO fender emblems and a front nose set from a 57. I am always on the lookout for more. :thinking

In the po's online ad, it was advertised as a power wagon, no mention of dodge or fargo. When I got there to look at it, that was the euraka moment. Holy % €£¥, it's a Fargo, good thing I brought the trailer. I managed to contain my enthusiam, knowing it's a rare commodity. It was in worse shape than the po had thought, so I got to offer less than the previously agreed to price. Score! It is down the list of projects, but I will start amassing parts, need to make a list. When I make said list, I will post it, might need some help with certain parts. Later.

Anyone ever seen this tag before, says that it has a 12" clutch and that the gvw is converted to 7000 lbs?

Upon closer inspection, this truck has the large knuckle dana 44, I think I'll keep it there, and build a disc setup for it. Guess I figured out the 7000 lb rating.

This is a pic of what this truck would be, only in 4wd trim and mine is a large back window. I apologize if it is a members truck, found the pic on the web. Anyone have any idea if I'd be able to find the side trim from the hood back? I found the hood trim on a wreck last weekend. Plans are for an injected 360 magnum, np435, seat from an 07, same turf green. If I can't find the rest of the side trim, I'll have it made at a trim shop and weld the holes shut. I'm going to shorten a lwb box into a swb, I have one that the floor is gone in, but the sides and front are good. By my measurements, it is possible, but a lot of work. I think I'll try keeping the 4.10's, but use tall rubber to make it driveable. I'd like to drive it daily when I'm done. It is a very rare truck, but not worth much on the market, so I'm going to make it how I want it. I have amassed a great deal of parts in the past few years, I have almost everything I need for it. No one makes disc brakes for the large knuckle, but I know a lot of machinist types, and I am going to try building a disc setup. When I start, I'll start a build thread on it.

FYI Ray Suiter has been making disc brake systems for sweptline W's & D's for a long time, I purchased one of his disc brake kits for my 68 W300 a couple of years ago at that time he was working overseas and I had to wait for his return to Fort Myers FL which took a year. His son is now assisting him with distribution, his products are well engineered and proven he also follows up with anything you may need. http://www.uglytruckling.com/

I emailed them about a set of brackets a month ago. Have not heard back. This truck has the larger knuckle diff, they don't make a kit for that anyway.

Get a hold of Ray I'm pretty sure he can help you after all the dana 70 has the same large knuckle you refer to on your 44, IMO it would be just a matter of drilling it for the bolt pattern on your 44's spindle. :2cents

I have later 8 bolt diffs for a swepty, 3.54 and 3.55 respectively, so front discs and a bit more highway friendly gears. Yesterday I cut the 8 foot box sides off of a parts truck. The bed was so bad that I could fold it in half. I need to remove 14 inches from the front section and 6 from the back. Then build a framework to put it all back together. Instant shortbox. I plan on a wooden bed floor. Seems like a lot of work, but there are very few swb swepties in my area, easier for me to make one. I have been taking pics of the progress, I'll post them later. Bell housing front has had material removed to accept the magnum flywheel, and the crank sensor hole has been cut. I talked with a local clutch rebuilder, he tells me if we put 12 springs in the pressure plate, it should handle the extra power of a magnum.

I'd be very interested to learn how you can put disks on a large knuckle D44. I have 4:10's too but will be switching to 3:55's at some point
